Eduaction

“As I was typewriting this, I misspelt “education” as “eduaction”. Possible, in the first glance but they signal two realities worlds apart. Education etymologically means an act of leading away from something, presumably from any limiting situations. It seems to speak about an original point in that respect but leaves no clue about the finality which it leads to. It is not for nothing that the education of our times becomes so disoriented and tend to dwell in plains of economic viability and nothing else.
Let me quote from the celebrated song “Another Brick in the Wall” by Pink Floyd
We don’t need no education
We dont need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!
All in all it’s just another brick in the wall.
All in all you’re just another brick in the wall.
Heretic as it may seem, this chunk of words nevertheless serves a grim reminder- to the teachers and students. A sea change in the way we look at the scenario of education is to be ushered in. rather than smiling complacently at these lines the students shall know that their life of active freedom begins right at the moment when they are equipped to court the freedom. It does not happen overnight!
The system needs a reshuffle. When an overhaul occurs the essentialities have to be preserved and dynamics can and should occur in all other aspects. This gives rise to a novelty. We are not automata moving along assembly lines, but are men in flesh and bones with a head to contrive, heart to resolve and hands to execute. This is to be done always with the “Other” as the sole perspective.
Aristotle is said to have employed a very incisive technique to elect his prospective disciples. He asked them to look at a clear brook and asked them to report what they saw. All who saw nothing else but themselves in the pool were not fit for the job. We shouldn’t miss all that surrounds us by exhausting our focus on ourselves. All grooming-social, economic, academic (you name it…), should be done to add beauty to the entire cosmos.
Let it not part you that you should never be another brick in the wall.
